Freakonomics: When it is good to quit

As someone who has spent 10 years with one organization, I was recently headhunted to join another. After 6 months in my most recent role, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. I inventoried my assets and assessed my options and made the decision to quit. Quitting freed my mind to think about how to build my own practice and my own organization. Not that I had not been thinking about it previously, but it was like adding additional memory to your computer, it just ran faster and ideas flowed smoother. Time, energy and anxiety spent worrying about my job, deliverables, my team etc was now focused on building a business that was entirely mine. I wake up each morning and know that whatever I do that day, the end goal and results will always impact me any my family. Not to trivialize this, but I had the resources and the support to make this move but that’s entirely the point. If you ever find yourself in that situation – just do it. Quit.
